For 2,000 generations, the Human race stood as well as the rest of the galaxy under the watchful eye of the Idejj. Then, the Ihst came, waging war on the Idejj and nearly destroying the human race as well as the monks. In a last attempt to save their race and their way of life, they had a young boy named Ryu being transported across the galaxy, training him while they traveled. Eventually, though, they Ihst found them.

Ryu was unique among Idejj, knowing both dark and light psychic powers, and wielding two purple energy blades, the sacred weapon of both the monks and the warriors. Monks typically used blue energy blades, while Ihst used red. He used purple, a combination of both. Many wondered why this was so, and why he was so powerful.

When the warriors attacked, they left the ship stranded. They assumed they had killed Ryu, the last of the Idejj and one of the few humans remaining besides the secretive Ihst. He was left unconscious in his ship, only to be awoken as another ship boarded his. He ignited his energy blades, waiting for an ambush, though he couldn't remember anything from his past or who he was when he woke...
